President’s Report
We are now in the middle of winter and the very hot weather that seemed to take over our lives is all but a distant memory. Instead we are now coping with strong winds and rain, the latter being a great relief for our parched gardens and pastures.
I would like to remind you to let your course leader know if you are not able to attend a course you have enrolled in. Often, we enrol in a course, with great intentions, but then life gets in the way, as it does, and we are then unable to attend the sessions.
We have a new, and intriguing, course next term called ‘The Readultery Club’, led by Tineke Hazel. A description of the course is outlined in the program under the above heading.
Another new course, called ‘Australia: Explorers, Pioneers and Icons’, led by Ron Dearing, will focus on aspects of Australian history and will no doubt lead to much discussion.
Films will take over from lectures in Term 3, and will be run by Mike Dixon. He has chosen a wide variety of interesting and popular films.
After many years Meredyth Cilento has retired from running the Willunga Philosophy group. We thank her very much for all her hard work in leading this successful group. Meredyth spent many hours preparing papers which provided thought provoking discussion for the members of the group. Janine Wright is now the leader of Willunga Philosophy and we wish her every success for the future. There are now vacancies in the group, for those people who are keen to attend.
Sadly two more members of our U3A, Brenda Pentland and Joyce Newing, have passed away recently. As well as acting as secretary of the U3A, and the leader of cycling, Brend was very active in the Willunga and Aldinga community. Her dedication, hard work, and friendliness will be greatly missed by everyone. I will particularly miss her, both as a friend, and also as a supportive committee member.
Although Joyce Newing stepped back from active involvement in our U3A in recent years, she was still very much part of our group, both through her husband Ted, and in our memories of her. Joyce’s wit and sense of humour was especially appreciated at our lunch club meals.
Have a great term
